All writers want a reader, an ideal person who will read our work with sympathy and understanding and maybe even award us a prize . . . but who is this projected figure and how can a better understanding of this person help us to write better? How can we develop our own reading practise to become better readers of our own work, and the work of others? What does it mean to read as a writer? Whether you’re working in fiction or non-fiction, this workshop will offer some practical advice, close reading, and an opportunity to try some exercises. The workshop will help you to think about your reader and develop your work towards an audience, even if it’s only yourself.
The session will be a mixture of exercise, example, and discussion. It will be held on Zoom for 2.5 hours, 11am – 1.30pm UTC+1 on Saturday 14th October 2023.
This event is one of three Live Online sessions by Julia on writing. The others are ‘Approaches to the Blank Page‘ and ‘Structure and Technique‘. You can purchase all three at a discounted price of £100.
