Well-recorded audio versions of your writing can set you apart from other writers in a crowded publishing world. But this isn’t the only way to make a splash as a writer using audio. As well as diving into techniques for recording and performing your words, we’ll also look at podcasting as a means of sharing and distributing your writing. Last but not least, we’ll explore using audio clips on social media.
The topics we’ll cover in this workshop are:
• Why audio? – a voice for writers in a crowded world
• What makes a high-quality audio presentation?
• An introduction to performance for non-performers (we’ll hear advice via video from one of
Alternative Stories professional actors)
• Recording basics – getting the best possible recordings on your phone tablet or laptop
• Recording next steps – buying a basic microphone setup – It’s much cheaper than you’d expect.
• Working with actors (for those who don’t wish to record themselves)
• Podcasting and how it works
• Choosing a podcast platform
• Distributing and hosting your podcast
• SoundCloud and YouTube for writers and poets
• Using audio clips on social media
• Question and answer session
