Writers are in demand right now in the world of audio, but what happens when your script heads into production? This workshop provides a detailed look at the behind-the-scenes world of audio production specifically for writers. Chris Gregory will walk you through the creation of an audio drama series, with examples from the sci-fi drama The Dex Legacy, produced by Alternative Stories.
The workshop will cover the following topics:
• Getting your script ready for production
• The writer as part of a production team – how do writers fit in and what role do they have in the production team?
• Consistency across a series and the unique challenges of writing a serial drama
• Casting actors
• Working with actors – how the writer, director and cast work together
• Rehearsal and recording
• Listening through – analysing your recordings and retakes
• The mix part 1 – in this section we’ll talk about mixing the dialogue from your actors’ recordings
• The mix part 2 – This section discusses adding music, soundscape and sound effects to the drama
• Final listen through and edits. What are we listening for and why is this stage important?
• Distribution and promotion of your drama
• We’ll end with a Q&A session
