Accountability Club is an online Zoom-based group where writers come together to gain the benefits of a regular writing practice, have a chat about what we’re working on, and discuss the craft of writing. Sessions are facilitated by Ennis Welbourne, our Assistant Editor at London Lit Lab.
Fridays, 11am-1pm UK Time. Twice a month. You can find upcoming dates over on our Substack Calendar.
This session is available to paid Substack subscribers only, but if you upgrade to a paid subscription, you also get access to Short Story Club with Zoe Gilbert (dissecting a short story) and Memoir Club with Lily Dunn (dissecting a personal essay or memoir extract)!
Detailed Session Structure
11-11:10 | Intro Chat
During this first portion of the session, we have a casual chat about what we’re going to be writing this session. No need to know exactly what, you can always share some ideas for how you might use the time.
11:11-12:29 | Private Writing Time
Our mics-off private writing time is a chance to make some progress with whatever writing project you wish. You may choose to keep your camera on to contribute visually to the motivation or accountability that comes with working together (body doubling), or turn your camera off to better focus on your writing. Whatever helps you make best use of your time.
12:30-12:39 | Optional Break
You may take a break whenever you wish during our session. Here’s a suggested 9min break before we come back to the Zoom room.
12:40-13:00 | Chat
In the final portion of our session, everyone has a chance to tells us a bit about what we were just working on. For example, some of the ideas or themes we were exploring, writing techniques we were attempting, exercises or prompts we were working to, the general practice of writing and how we might improve the group.
Testimonials
“I am loving these sessions. It’s nice to be facilitated and have Ennis hold the time boundary for us. It feels like a casual, supportive and relaxing group. So far I’ve been happy with what I’ve achieved at the end of each session and more importantly, the creative and relaxed way I’ve achieved it!”
“Every two weeks on a Friday morning I have a date with my laptop. However much the chores and admin are piling up, the two hours of the Accountability Club are set aside for me and my writing. Being with a group of people who are all doing the same thing is a great motivation. I type like mad, review old pieces, play around with writing prompts, or just sit and think. I can feel my mind expanding into the space. No excuses, but no pressure either. Brilliant.”
“Having a shared slot and commitment to write was super helpful in actually making it happen! I’m looking forward to this being part of my weekly routine, to keep the words and stories flowing.”
“Thank you so much for this space – I’ve definitely got far more done than I would’ve left to my own devices! So pleased I made some progress! Thank you so much Ennis!”
“I just went to my first Accountability Club meeting with London Lit Lab and it was lovely! Thanks Ennis for hosting and everyone there for holding space. Lovely to chat in the small group after the work session too. Recommended!”
